We are committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion both within our school and our wider community. We are committed to providing equality of opportunity in children’s learning and eliminating discrimination. We believe in a fair future for all, and we value the diversity of thought and experience that all of our unique children bring to their everyday learning. Equally, we value the diversity of thought, background and experience that our staff and parents bring to our school. Through our school values, we seek to raise kind, respectful and inclusive children, while fostering their talents and building their aspiration and resilience.

Our children have an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) council where we talk about and address diversity and inclusion matters, bringing their inspiration and ideas back into the mainstream setting.

Our faith is inclusive, and our approach to the teaching and worship is values-based, encouraging kindness, dignity and respect to everyone. We use stories rooted in the Christian tradition as stimulus for discussion and reflection for all children. 

Religious Education is an academic subject and teaches about major world religions and humanist beliefs.

As a school, we have a legal responsibility under the Equality Act 2010 to have regard to the need to:

• eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation;
• advance equality of opportunity between people with a relevant protected characteristic and those who don’t share these; and
• foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.

Our Equalities Objectives for 2022 – 2023 are:

1. To establish an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) council with representatives from classes across the school. 

2. To raise the attainment of Black African, Black Caribbean, children on free school meals and SEND children in reading and writing in year 3.

3. To develop a consistently autism friendly learning environment across the school with a standardised set of learning aids and support materials in place in all classrooms.

 

 

We review these annually to ensure that we are meeting our legal responsibilities and working towards making our school a more inclusive environment.

We are also signatories to the Southwark Anti Racism Charter. This charter was unanimously adopted by the Southwark Diocesan synod and includes strategies for enhancing ethnic diversity and inclusion in the Diocese of Southwark.
